Soroptimist International of Renton

“It was a dark and stormy night…..(really!) Saturday, January 31, 1948, when the Renton Soroptimist Club was chartered at a banquet in the North Community Building in the Highlands.  The seven officers braved a snow storm in their long dresses to attend the installation.  Too many people worked too hard to bring about this event; they would not allow the inclement weather to spoil the occasion.”  from the history of SI Renton.

Soroptimist is an international organization for people who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. We have almost 95,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories that contribute time and financial support to community-based and international projects that benefit women and girls.

The name, Soroptimist, means best for women, and that’s what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.
